1. The picture to the right is the 380 ACP. This is the gun Gavrilo Princip used to shoot Archduke France Ferdinand in the head that marked the start of WWI on the 28th of June 1914.
I chose this artifact because it was the gun that started World War I. This artifact was a symbol that marked the day that changed history forever. Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in a car by Gavrilo Princip, after a series of attempts that had failed by five other men. The first attempt was a failed grenade. Those men involved were too stunned to continue the mission. On the way back, the driver of the Archduke took a wrong turn and that was where two shots were fired. One bullet hit his wife in the stomach and the other bullet hit the Archduke in the neck. Both died in the car. Ellage was the man who told the Austrians about the entire plan. This artifact symbolizes the beginning of WWI. It made the people of Austria Hungary furious and later this day they declared war on Serbia.

2.The picture to the right is a news paper that came out on June 28, 1914. That was the day the Archduke France Ferdinand was assassinated during his tour through Sarajevo.
I chose this artifact as the 2nd of the 5 artifacts to mark the start of the conflict and that Austria chose to go the war. This news article encouraged other countries to step in. Austria started making preparations for a possible invasion of Serbia. After the other countries began to hear about this, Germany, Austria's most powerful ally, stepped in to help. They began with the removal of all Anti-Austrian propaganda, and they looked into the assassination of the Arch Duke. During this time, Russia, Serbia's main ally also stepped in as they began making military preparations in opposition of Austria. This marked the beginning of the conflict.

3.This is the WWI German Maxim machine gun 7.92 mm (MG08/15). One of the weapons the Germans used in WWI.
I chose this artifact to symbolize Germany becoming the main enemy in WWI. This gun was suppose to be handled by two men on the ground. This weapon became one of the main machine guns the Germans used in WWI. This gun is a symbol of the German's power because of their advanced guns and technology such as poison gas, mobility, submarines and tanks. This can symbolize the middle of the war as most of the main countries are included. Since Germany had become so powerful, Russia's allies: France, Britian and other countries joined to fight against Germany. The United States didn't join until the ending years of the war.

4.This picture is a group of U.S. soldiers that went into WWI.
On April 6th, 1917 the United States joined the British, French, and the Russians to fight in the war against Germany. This decision was made after the Germans decided to keep the policy of submarine warfare which made American ships sink. The United States also joined the war because Germany attempted to force Mexico into an alliance with them against the United States. The President, Woodrow Wilson, made the decision and they were on there way. More than 2 million U.S. soldiers fought in WW1 in just 1 year before the war ended. Events that lead up to this decision go back two years in 1915 when a British passenger liner, the Lusitania, was sunk by German submarines killing 128 Americans. This made the United States furious. However, they did not engage in any war until two years later. I chose this because it is relevant to the ending years of the war and explains why and what happened to make the United States join WW1.

5.This is the Treaty of Versailles. This is the peace treaty that ended WWI.
The Treaty of Versailles was signed at 3:50 pm on 28 June 1919. I chose this artifact as the last of the 5 to conclude the story of WWI and to explain all the events that caused WWI and why it is important years later to come.
Germany lost the war, leaving them with 440 punishing articles to destroy Germany in every way of life and civilization. The treaty was meant to leave Germany in such a condition they would no longer become a threat to the world. However, this would not be the case. The allied powers blamed Germany for everything that happened in WWI and soon Germany would become strong enough again to cause a second World War. Woodrow Wilson introduced the League of Nations, a worldwide peace keeping group who's goal was to solve world problems without military action. The Treaty had weakened Germany to the greatest extent possible. Germany was only allowed to have 100,000 men in their army with no submarines or air force. The navy was held to a maximum of 6 ships and was forced to pay 6,600 million euros for damages. These devastating results of the Treaty soon lead to a global stock market crash. Soon Germany would again become too powerful with the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis into a 2nd World War only decades later.
